New Collection, ‘No Goodbyes’

‘No Goodbyes’ is a brand new series and creative direction, embracing a more sustainable, slow practice, using handmade, foraged and/or eco-based materials from trusted companies. These new images welcome in a new era in her art, inviting spiritual awakenings to take material form and using pigments, techniques and gentleness to create works that leave no harmful trace on our Earth.

After much research, Ruby has moved into honey-based watercolours, creating mixed media works out of chalk, rice bran crayon and coloured pencil. Other paints include homemade egg tempera, mixed with foraged stone pigment, and a heritage Swedish paint made from wheat, linseed oil and iron oxide. Working with natural paints in the studio has brought surprise and intrigue into the creation of her work, each piece having more texture and originality. Connecting to the whole life cycle of creating art, from its natural origin in the landscape, to the slow processing into paint, and finally its completed form, has been enriching and grounding for her. A holistic way to art-making.

Therefore with this new intention, the production of new works will be slower and more considered, conforming less to the fast pace capitalist demands of the art and interiors market. Each work is made with integrity, protecting the artist’s vision and energy.

‘No Goodbyes’ takes its name from personal insight and clarity with grief, loss and the felt sense of loneliness under the weight of sorrow. In a moment of revelation with plant magic, it became clear to Ruby the illusion of separation to the ones we have loved and loss, in the great mystery of life there existing a web of connectivity, that we might not need to As ever, the seminal works of William Blake continue to be of inspiration, natural repeating forms in the landscape and mind’s eye, and folk/ancestral art making is central to the style and substance of this new collection.
