silver shadows: maternal and prenatal awakenings

Field System Gallery, 13 West Street, Ashburton, Devon, TQ13 7DT from the 3rd - 20th September 2026

In this solo exhibition, artist Ruby Bateman journeys through the passion of motherhood and honours the wisdom of prenates. In the Western world we do not widely acknowledge the sensory consciousness of life in the womb. Its memory held implicitly in the body and psyche, often passing down for generations. Using Jungian and psychotherapy philosophies, Ruby explores the shadowy world of the unconscious, and the echoes of womb and birth, reflecting both personally and as a collective. This series of drawings and paintings meditate on our origin story with the mother and beyond. Ruby shares her own soulful encounters with loss and grief, but also tender gratitude and joy. It is with great heart, that she dedicates this exhibition to the memory of Silver Oak.
